Dhampus Peak also known by the name, “Thapa Peak” is located in between Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. Dhampus Peak standing at an altitude of 6012m offers the grandeur of Upper Kali Gandaki and majestic views of different peaks between Dhaulagiri and Annapurna. Dhampus Peak trek is often claimed as Technical Adventure and moderate. The picturesque Dhaulagiri Massif is what Dhampus Peak Trek offers you. This trek is rewarded as an adventurous trek by thousands of travelers. The closest insight of Tukuche peak (6920m) and Dhaulagiri (8167m) will be an experience beyond your expectation. Tilicho Peak Tower above the horizon of the south will be breath-taking.

 

Trek to Dhampus Peak will start from Kathmandu after your arrival. The inception of this trek will be with sightseeing UNESCO world heritage sites. On ascending the peak, the steep trails to Dhampus Peak will offer you parched landscape, snow-capped mountains and distinct wildlife into the thin woods. The next day, we will head toward Pokhara, the most popular tourist hub of Nepal. The natural beauty and enriched bio-diversity of Pokhara will lure you. The lakeside view is worth every expectation of yours.  The trek to Dhampus Peak is either by the short route from Jomsom or following the Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek. The trails of Dhampus will pass over lush Rhododendron forest, quaint villages. The splendid views of Himalayas will fade away your tiredness and fill you with contentment.

Detail Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by a representative and transferred to your hotel. You can spend the rest of the day resting or exploring the vibrant city on your own.

Day 2: Sightseeing in Kathmandu You will visit some of the UNESCO World Heritage sites in Kathmandu including the ancient royal palace of Kathmandu Durbar Square, the Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the Buddhist stupa of Swayambhunath (also known as Monkey Temple), and the largest stupa in Nepal, Boudhanath.

Day 3: Drive to Pokhara from Kathmandu You will drive to Pokhara, a beautiful lakeside town located at the foothills of the Annapurna range. You can spend the evening exploring the city or relaxing by the lakeside.

Day 4: Trek to Tikhedhunga You will drive to Nayapul and begin your trek to Tikhedhunga. The trail passes through small villages, terraced fields, and lush forests.

Day 5: Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani The trek continues through forests of rhododendron and oak trees to Ghorepani, a beautiful village located at the top of a ridge.

Day 6: Ghorepani Poonhill trek to Tatopani You will wake up early in the morning and trek to Poon Hill, which offers a panoramic view of the Himalayas including Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Machhapuchhre. You will then trek to Tatopani, a village known for its hot springs.

Day 7: Tatopani trek to Ghasa The trail passes through small villages and lush forests to Ghasa, a village located at the confluence of the Kali Gandaki and Rupse Chhahara rivers.

Day 8: Ghasa to Tukuche The trail passes through the village of Kalopani and a beautiful pine forest to Tukuche, a village located at the foot of the Dhaulagiri range.

Day 9: Trek to Dhampus Peak You will begin your trek to Dhampus Peak, passing through small villages and forests. The trail then becomes steep as you climb towards the base camp.

Day 10: Ascent to the second camp You will continue to climb towards the second camp, which is located at an altitude of approximately 5,200 meters.

Day 11: Ascent to highest Camp On this day, the climbers will ascend to the highest campsite on the Dhampus Peak, which is at an altitude of around 5,200 meters. The route to the campsite involves a steep climb up a rocky ridge, followed by a traverse across a glacier. The climbers will spend the night at the campsite, preparing themselves for the summit attempt the following day.

Day 12: Summit day This is the day that the climbers have been working towards – the summit attempt of Dhampus Peak. The climb to the summit involves a challenging mix of rock and ice climbing, with sections of steep snow and ice slopes. At the summit, climbers will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. After spending some time at the summit, the climbers will descend back to the highest campsite for the night.

Day 13: Descent to the second camp On this day, the climbers will descend from the highest campsite to the second campsite, located at around 4,800 meters. The descent involves retracing the same route that was taken during the ascent.

Day 14: Trek down to Tukuche From the second campsite, the climbers will trek down to the village of Tukuche, located at an altitude of around 2,500 meters. The descent involves passing through several picturesque villages and scenic landscapes.

Day 15: Trek to Jomsom On this day, the climbers will trek to the town of Jomsom, which is the largest settlement in the region. The trek involves passing through the Kali Gandaki valley, which is known for its dramatic landscapes and unique culture.

Day 16: Jomsom to Pokhara From Jomsom, the climbers will take a flight back to Pokhara, where they can rest and relax after the strenuous climb.

Day 17: Drive to Kathmandu On the second last day of the trip, the climbers will drive from Pokhara back to Kathmandu, where they can enjoy a final night in the city.

Day 18: Final Departure On the final day of the trip, the climbers will be transferred to the airport for their flight back home, with memories of an unforgettable adventure in the Himalayas.

  • Accommodation during the trek (lodges or camping) and in Pokhara and Kathmandu (usually on a twin-sharing basis)

Before You Go
