Pikey Peak Trek is a short trek in the Everest Region of Nepal. It is recently opened trekking destination in the most popular tourist region of Nepal, Everest Region. This trek is remarkably beautiful and off-the-beaten-track trek of Nepal. Considering the nature of the trek, it is classified moderate trek. The name Pike comes from the two titles of the Sherpas and Tamang. The trekking trails of Pike Peak covers the route of Jiri to Chaulakharka and finally to the Pike Hill area. Alternative route of this trekking covers Pike Hill to Phaplu passing through Paanch Pokhari and Tamakhani to the north east of Salleri.

From pikey peak you can see most of the central and eastern himalayan peaks Sagarmatha (Mt Everest), Makalu, Mansalu, Dhaulagiri, Gauri shankar, Lhotse, Numbur, Khatang, Karyalung, Shishapangma, Mera peak, tamserku, Lhotseshar, Nuptse and little of Ama Dablam.  Pike Hill is popular for sunrise and sunset views.

Best Season: The best season to trek to Pikey Peak is during the autumn months of September to November and the spring months of March to May. During these months, the weather is generally clear and dry with moderate temperatures, making it ideal for trekking.

Permits & Regulation:

As for permits and regulations for Pikey Peak trek, the following are the main requirements:

  1. TIMS Card: Trekkers to Pikey Peak are required to obtain a Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) card. This can be obtained through a registered trekking agency or through the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu.
  2. National Park Permit: Pikey Peak trek falls within the area of Solu Khumbu region and the Sagarmatha National Park. Therefore, trekkers are required to obtain a Sagarmatha National Park permit.
  3. Restricted Area Permit: If you plan to visit the lower Solu Khumbu region, you will need to obtain a Lower Solu Khumbu Restricted Area Permit. If you plan to visit the upper Solu Khumbu region, you will need to obtain an Upper Solu Khumbu Restricted Area Permit.
  4. Local Regulations: Visitors are encouraged to respect the local culture and traditions, including dressing modestly, asking for permission before taking photos, and avoiding public displays of affection.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu [1345m/4411ft] and transfer to hotel.
Our airport arrival and departure representative will be at Tribhuvan International Airport on your arrival schedule. You will be transferred to hotel and our staff will help you until check-in procedure ends at Hotel. Either you can have a rest at the Hotel or visit NGT’s office. In the evening, join our welcome dinner program organized by Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition Team.

Day 02: Fly from Kathmandu to Phaplu [2470m/8101ft] & Trek to Bhittakharka [2265m/7839ft] [2-3 hrs Trek]
From Kathmandu, we will take a flight to Phaplu which takes approximately around 25 minutes. After landing at Phaplu we will start our trek to Bhittakharka where we will be staying at local house (Homestay). Bhittakharka is a small village with total number of around 115 houses with different castes like Sherpa, Tamang, Kami, Damai and so on. From Bhittakharka we can see beautiful snow capped mountain Numbur. There are many religious places to see around like Dhungdhungey cave and Balthan cave where once in a year many people get together to worship. It is believed that your dream will come true when you worship there.

Day 03: Trek from Bhittakharka  to Jhaprey [2265m/ 6 – 7 hours approx)

Today we will trek on a moderate trail that passes through several monasteries and beautifully painted Mani walls. We will pass through Merangding to reach Shisha khola. At Merangding there is one Hindu Temple where the local and people from far away comes once in a year to worship, after passing school we will reach Shisha khola for lunch. After the lunch we will be walking up hills for around 3.5 hours passing through Phatanjey to reach Jhaprey. From Phata jey to Siganey Wongchu memorail hospital is in construction which  is not complete yet. And it is built in the memory of Wongchu sherpa. The credit for taking a heavy camera to the roof of the world goes to Wongchu and enable shooting IMAX films from there.

Day 04: Trek from Jhaprey to Bhulbhuley (3500 m/ 3-4 hours)

Today we will be walking in the forest viewing big and old trees imcluding our national flower Rhododendron trees. On the way we will also see the yaks and naks grazing in the green grasses. There are normal tea houses. From Bhulbhuley we will see the beautiful village downwards. After lunch at Bhulbhuley in order to acclimatize we will be hiking 1 or 2 hours depending upon the condition.

Day 05: Trek from Bhulbhuley to Pikey peak [4065m/13333ft] [4-5 hrs Trek]
Leaving Bhulbhuley on the way we will see Mani walls and stupas. enjoying all the wonderful views we will reach Pikey base camp.

Day 06: Trek from Pikey peak to Junbesi [2700m/8856ft] [4-5 hrs Trek]
Pikey peak base camp is one of the best spot to witness the morning sunrise view. We will wake up early for the magnificent sunrise view over Himalayan Ranges from Kanchenjunga to Dhaulagiri as well as Mount Everest. After spending a quality time in the morning, we will follow the trail that is an easy downhill trekking through the scenic landscapes and scattered settlements to arrive at Junbesi.

Day 07: Trek from Junbesi to Thuptenchholing [ 3100m/10168ft] and Trek back to Junbesi [3-4 hrs Trek]
From Junbesi we will make an uphill climb towards Thuptenchholing where we will visit Thuptenchholing monastery and observe the traditional Tibetan medicinal therapy. From the top we can enjoy the whole Junbesi valley down below. After spending few hours at Thuptenchholing we will head back to Junbesi. We can also observe the Sherpa cultural dance performance on request at Junbesi.

Day 09: Trek from Junbesi to Chiwang Monastery [2470m/8101ft] [5-6 hrs Trek]
From Junbesi we will start our trek to Chiwang monastery which will be of little bit uphill. On the way we do a tea break at Furteng where you can have a beautiful view of Mount Everest. We will be passing the Solu river and taking lunch at Ringmo. Passing through the samll villlage called Phera and Jambok we will be heading up to the Chiwang monastery.

Day 10: From Chiwang monastery to Phaplu and fly to Kathmandu.

Today we will take a scenic flight from Phaplu back to Kathmandu that takes approximately about 35 minutes. After arriving at Kathmandu, you can relax at the Hotel or do sightseeing around Kathmandu valley before heading back to your destination.

Day 11: Final Departure from international airport.
Our Airport representative will drop you at the Airport as per your flight schedule.
